Tesla faces lawsuit for air pollution from its Fremont, California factory operations

Tesla is currently facing a lawsuit from the Environmental Democracy Project, which claims that Tesla hasn't been-

sticking to the Clean Air Act rules at its assembly plant in Fremont, California.

The lawsuit was filed in a San Francisco federal court, alleging that Tesla had been breaking the law multiple times since-

January 2021, causing pollution that affected nearby neighborhoods.

The company's manufacturing processes have been scrutinized despite Tesla's vehicles being celebrated for their environmental benefits.

Tesla landed 89 on the 2023 Toxic 100 Air Polluters index by the University of Massachusetts' Political Economy Research Institute. Last year, the Environmental Protection-

Agency fined Tesla $275,000 for not properly monitoring and managing emissions, especially from its painting operations.

Earlier, Tesla settled lawsuits with 25 California counties concerning how they handled hazardous waste. Over in Germany,

environmental advocates have raised concerns about Tesla clearing forests for a new factory and its water use.

The lawsuit points out Tesla's recent issues as "ongoing." It highlights that people living nearby and workers are exposed to harmful chemicals.

So far, Tesla hasn't made any comments on the lawsuit. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has also flagged Tesla for "unabated-

emissions" in Fremont and is seeking an abatement order. It's worth noting that Tesla has received 112 violation notices since 2019.

The lawsuit suggests that the assembly plant's air pollution issues stem from frequent equipment failures and the alleged reduction of pollution control systems.

The paint shop, in particular, has been a problematic area, suffering from fires, among other issues.

Despite these hurdles, Tesla is still passionately pursuing its mission to speed up the world's shift to sustainable energy. CEO Elon Musk is-

heavily invested in AI, self-driving software, and other innovative technologies, highlighting Tesla's contribution towards achieving autonomy.
