Volkswagen has just introduced the exciting new seventh-generation VW Transporter and-
Caravelle vans, joining the lineup that already includes the electric ID. Buzz and Multivan T7.
This latest version of the VW Transporter T7, built on the same platform as the new Ford Transit Custom, offers flexible-
options for everyone, with powertrains available in turbodiesel, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric.
Whether you need it for work or play, there are plenty of configurations to choose from, such as the LCV versions (panel van, panel van Plus, and double cab dropside) and-
passenger models (Kombi and Caravelle). For those looking for extra space, the Transporter T7 also provides high roof and extended wheelbase options to fit more cargo or passengers.
While the VW Transporter and Caravelle share some features with the Ford Transit/Tourneo Custom, VW has introduced unique design elements to help these models stand out.
The new front end combines design aspects from both the Multivan and ID. Buzz, while signature VW details include a sleek beltline along the windows and Amarok-inspired LED taillights.
Inside, you'll find a cabin similar to the Ford’s, featuring a digital cockpit with a 12-inch instrument cluster, a 13-inch infotainment screen, and lots of practical storage.
The blue van you see represents the Caravelle in the stylish flagship trim, ready to seat nine passengers.
Meanwhile, the green-yellow Transporter panel van showcases the rugged Pan Americana variant, complete with painted bumpers, matching fenders, and 19-inch Indianapolis alloy wheels.
Inside, it boasts illuminated stainless steel side steps, glossy black accents, and exclusive seat fabrics with Pan Americana branding.
VW promises the T7 offers “more space, payload, towing capacity, and efficiency” than its predecessor.
The previous T6.1 model was discontinued for not meeting the latest EU cybersecurity regulations.
Depending on the model, the new Transporter ranges from 5,050 to 5,450 mm in length, with wheelbases of either 3,100 mm or 3,500 mm.
It’s bigger in every way than its predecessor, with a maximum load capacity between 5.8 to 9.0 cubic meters and a payload up to 1.33 tonnes. It can also tow up to 2.8 tonnes.
You can choose from three turbodiesels, a 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid, and three fully electric powertrain options. The least powerful diesel has 108 hp, while the electric version delivers an impressive 282 hp.
Diesel models are front-wheel drive, with optional all-wheel drive for the more powerful ones.
On the other hand, the e-Transporter and e-Caravelle are rear-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive versions expected soon.
These vans made their debut at the IAA Transportation 2024 in Hannover, featuring-
Hollywood star Jason Statham as part of the campaign—a nod to his role in the “Transporter” movies.
The VW Transporter T7 is now available to order in Germany, starting at €36,780, excluding VAT, or €43,768.20, including VAT, for the entry-level diesel panel van.
Pricing for the Caravelle is yet to be revealed. Production is set to take place in Turkey, alongside the Ford Transit/Tourneo Custom.
