Cybertruck Range Extender Coming Mid-2025

By Kevin Joseph October 23, 2024

Let me break down the latest buzz about Tesla's Cybertruck situation in a more casual way.

So, remember that range extender battery pack Tesla announced for the Cybertruck last year?

Well, it looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer – they've pushed the release back to mid-2025. This add-on battery pack,

which fits in the truck's bed, was supposed to be a game-changer for driving range, but things aren't quite playing out as planned.

Initially, Tesla got everyone excited by promising some pretty impressive numbers. They said the dual-motor version would jump from 340 to 470+

miles of range, and the beefy Cyberbeast (that's the tri-motor version) would go from 320 to 440 miles. But here's where it gets interesting – Tesla just updated their website-

with slightly different figures. Now they're saying the dual-motor will get "445+ miles" with the pack, and if you're running all-terrain tires, expect around "415+ miles."

Speaking of expectations versus reality, let's talk about pricing because, whew, there's been quite a shift since 2019. Remember when Tesla said the base model would start at $39,900?

Those were the days! Fast forward to now, and you're looking at $79,990 for the all-wheel drive version, and the tri-motor Cyberbeast will set you back $99,900-

– that's $30,000 more than originally planned. Oh, and that range extender we talked about? Add another $16,000 to your bill.

Despite all these changes and that entry-level single-motor version still being MIA, people are apparently still lining up to buy the Cybertruck.

It's kind of fascinating how Tesla maintains such strong demand even when the final product differs quite a bit from what was initially promised. Really shows the power of their brand, doesn't it?

The whole situation raises some interesting questions about the future of electric trucks and how companies balance ambitious promises with real-world constraints.

What are your thoughts on these developments? Do you think Tesla's loyal customer base will continue to support these price adjustments and delays?
