After the successful release of the Ariel Nomad 2, the UK-based company is now offering an exciting all-electric variant of its off-road vehicle, the Ariel E-Nomad.
Although it is still in the concept stage, it offers a sneak peek of a production model anticipated to be released in 2026.
The E-Nomad distinguishes itself from its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart with its modern bodywork made from recyclable flax fibre bio-composite.
This innovative material, developed by Bamd Composites, is 9% lighter than carbon fibre and reduces CO2 emissions during manufacturing by an impressive 73%.
In addition, the E-Nomad achieves a 30% reduction in drag compared to the Nomad 2 while maintaining downforce.
This is made possible by a covered tubular chassis and a more streamlined roof design incorporating the spare wheel.
E-Nomads now have zero-emission powertrains instead of Ford's 2.3-liter EcoBoost engines. The Borg Warner eDM motor delivers 281 horsepower-
and 490 Nm of torque to the rear wheels, making driving strong and dynamic with a limited-slip differential. This variant meets the ICE version's 3.4-second 0-60 mph time.
The drivetrain utilizes a Cascadia Motion IDM90 motor, gearbox, and inverter unit, with a weight of 92 kg. It features Ariel's latest ABS with drive mode options and regenerative braking.
A Rockford Engineering 450V, 41 kWh battery pack underneath the two-seater cabin weighs 300 kg and has cooling and heating.
An 80% charge in 25 minutes is possible with the 150-mile E-Nomad's DC rapid charging. Director Simon Saunders from Ariel shared his thoughts on the-
future of the E-Nomad, mentioning the possibility of including it alongside the ICE Nomad 2 after testing based on customer feedback.
The Ariel E-Nomad Concept is set to debut at the Cenex Expo 2024 on September 4, and enthusiasts can look forward to the production version arriving by 2026.
The expected price for this model is around £10,000 more than the ICE Nomad 2, which has a starting price of £67,992.
