2024 Toyota Tacoma transmission issues raise doubts
Recent US news stories have shared some concerns about the reliability of Toyota's 2024 Tacoma trucks, particularly regarding their automatic transmissions.
Some owners have experienced issues or setbacks within the first 1,000 miles. Toyota said they would be happy to repair some broken transmissions if specific conditions are met.
Not all 2024 Tacoma models are eligible for replacement. Hey there! A recent technical service bulletin from Toyota-
pointed out that some Tacoma VINs with eight-speed automatic transmission might have a few issues.
Just a heads up! Unfortunately, replacements are only available if the transmission has already failed, so owners need to go through a breakdown before qualifying.
Also, the vehicle must register one of six specific trouble codes that point to issues like a stuck pressure control solenoid actuator-
or a torque converter clutch actuator that stays in the off position, according to the Tacoma4G forums.
This issue does not impact manual transmission models, and the 2025 Tacoma remains the only pickup truck in the US that offers a manual transmission option.
This situation brings more challenges for Toyota in 2024. In July, the company recalled specific engines in Toyota Tundra-
trucks and Lexus LX SUVs because some machining debris was discovered during manufacturing.
Over 100,000 engines might be affected, and there’s a good chance that even more Tundras will be included.
Toyota's choice to replace faulty transmissions is a thoughtful step in tackling the manufacturing issue.
However, the need for the fault to show up before taking action might shape potential buyers' feelings, especially regarding their preference for automatic versus manual transmission.
