2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Recalled Over Airbag Issue

Attention Hyundai Owners: We wanted to inform you about a recent recall affecting nearly 50,000 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid models built between December 2023 and July 2024.

What’s Happening? Hyundai has issued a recall and a do-not-sell order for 2024 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid models.

The problem involves second-row airbags that might unintentionally deploy or fail to deploy in a crash.

Affected Models: The recall impacts 49,719 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrids. The main issue is that the floor wire harness could-

come into contact with the second-row seat hinge, possibly causing damage. This damage could lead to “inadvertent-

airbag deployment and/or an inability to deploy the airbags during a crash,” raising the risk of injury or death.

Why Is This Happening? The issue stems from inconsistent routing and improper securing of the wiring harness. It was identified after a case of inadvertent airbag-

deployment in South Korea, which triggered an investigation. Hyundai found eight unique incidents related to this-

issue in the U.S. market this year. Fortunately, no injuries or crashes have been reported.

What’s the Fix? Dealership technicians will inspect and secure the wiring harness. If any damage is found, they will replace the harness free of charge.

The fix involves sliding the second-row seat forward and checking the wiring. If no damage is found, two-

zip ties will secure the wiring harness in place. The inspection takes less than 30 minutes.

What You Should Do: If you own a 2024 Santa Fe or Santa Fe Hybrid, please contact your local Hyundai dealership to arrange an inspection.

Dealers are instructed not to deliver vehicles to customers until the recall has been addressed.

Stay safe and thank you for being part of the Hyundai community.
