Ford Recalls 144K Mavericks for Freezing Rear Cameras

Sept 21, 2024

Ford has announced another recall for the Maverick pickup. There’s a recall for 144,000 Maverick trucks.

The problem is that the rear camera images are freezing when reversing.

The models that are affected range from the 2022 to the 2024 model years.

The trucks that have the issue come with Connected Touch Radios. Ford spotted the possible issue back in June 2024.

The stress tests showed that there’s a memory leak in the software.

This leak might make the rearview camera image freeze up. We found four more vulnerabilities as well.

Sometimes, these vulnerabilities can lead to the camera image not showing up or being a bit delayed.

Trucks with software issues were produced between February 3, 2021, and November 28, 2023.

The newer software versions in production didn't have this issue. Ford knows about four warranty claims connected to the issue.

Ford received 22 complaints about the camera issue.

There have been two accidents reported because of this defect. There have been no injuries linked to the camera issue.

Ford is going to resolve the issue with a software update. Customers should stop by a dealer for the update installation.

Just a quick heads up that notifications to owners will begin on September 30.

This isn't the first time the Maverick has been recalled; previous recalls were related to some unexpected gear-shifting issues. Ford is eager to tackle these safety concerns quickly.
